The Centre provides care and education for children of staff and students at Laidlaw College, as well as children from the wider community.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Olive Shoots we welcome tamariki and their whanau into our centre where we aim
to create a safe, inviting, inclusive and sustainable environment. We believe that whanau, the centre and the wider community are all vital for a child’s growth and development.  We acknowledge that the intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual aspects of our lives are interrelated and influenced by each other

The centre is fully licensed by the Ministry of Education and is divided into 3 rooms:

PIPI ROOM

Under 2.5 years
10 infants and toddlers
3 teachers

SEAHORSE ROOM

2.5–4 years
20 children
4 teachers

STARFISH ROOM

4–5 years
20 children
3 teachers

OUR TEACHERS

Qualified and experienced teachers, excellent ratios and an educational curriculum ensure all children attending Olive Shoots receive the best in quality care and education.

Our teachers are carefully selected for their personal qualities of warmth, friendliness, approachability, empathy, their teaching skills and their commitment to the special character of Olive Shoots. You will also see student teachers, who are supervised by trained teachers and tutors in the practical application of their early childhood education training.

CENTRE HOURS

Our Centre hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The Centre is open from mid January and closes for 1 week mid-year and approximately 3 weeks during the Christmas break, reopening mid January.

The Centre is also closed for statutory holidays.

Olive Shoots Early Childhood Centre is very well placed to promote positive learning outcomes for children.
